We define the Black experience as the perspective of original, autochthonous and indigenous peoples around the world as they express their reality. This expression is often artistic: dance, music, spoken word, visual and media art are all creative forms that engage the senses through storytelling.
The Black History in Film Festival is an integral aspect to original, autochthonous and indigenous peoples as we build a new world using the old rituals and traditions.
The Black History in Film Festival is a foundation to use media arts as the focus for celebration while encouraging creation of new media arts forms by showcasing socially relevant films and providing an educational basis for new generations as they define their reality. This combination of old and new is connecting the dots of the community.
We present our stories by the:
1) education of the individual and the community to promote awareness, knowledge of self and empowerment in the common unity of humankind through educational initiatives such as forums, workshops, presentations, and discussions;
2) creation and production of visual and media artistry to share our stories in our particular forms of creative and artistic expression;
3) celebration of our stories to pay homage to the past and lay the groundwork for future achievement. Connect the dots.
